Ubisoft will develop games on the blockchain

Leading PC gaming company Ubisoft plans to start developing games on blockchain with support for tokens and NFTs. Users will be able to earn money while playing.

The French developer is no stranger to blockchain games. Ubisoft has previously funded and supported several projects in this area, one of which is Animoca’s REVV Motosports. It is an ecosystem of several games with REVV token support.

It seems that now the management of Ubisoft has decided that the company is ready to independently engage in the development of such games. As noted by the CEO of the company Yves Guillemot (Ives Guillemot), games on the blockchain should “organically” fit into the portfolio of Ubisoft.

Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet is very supportive of the idea. Partnerships with companies like Animoca have given Ubisoft a good understanding of how blockchain can impact the video game industry, he said. It is Ubisoft that “should become one of the key players in this area.”

The implementation of the blockchain will allow players to own in-game content and make a profit, however, there have been no specific plans to launch games with NFT support. At the same time, Ubisoft owns the rights to highly popular series of games, including Assassins Creed, Far Cry and Prince of Persia.

In August, it was reported that another video game giant, Electronic Arts, plans to explore the possibilities of blockchain and NFT. A division of the company – EA Sports – is looking for specialists in the field of crypto assets and blockchain.
