uBlock Origin Minus released, bypassing Chrome’s ad blocker restrictions

Starting next January, Chrome will no longer support the Manifest V2 API, on which all popular ad blockers are built. Instead, there will be support exclusively for Manifest V3, which imposes certain restrictions on the operation of such extensions. Some developers are already adapting to new APIs, and the creator of uBlock Origin is one of them – he released uBlock Origin Minus, built on the basis of Manifest V3. This was noticed by gHacks.

The new Minus version is now experimental and due to the use of the declarativeNetRequest API (instead of more powerful analogues from Manifest V2) it does less blocking. However, it is safer for the user (this was Google’s idea to abandon Manifest V2), the extension does not require any additional permissions, including the right to “read and modify data on all sites.”

uBO Minus uses the same default set of filters as uBlock Origin, but optimized due to new restrictions. It is distributed free of charge through the Chrome Store and will receive updates at the same time as the regular extension for Chromium and Firefox.
