UFRJ Hospital may close 110 inpatient beds by the end of the year

The Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital, known as Hospital do Fundão, administered by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), can close 110 of the 310 inpatient beds it has. today available to serve the population.

According to the general direction of the unit, 850 professionals paid with a supplementary budget from the Ministry of Health will have their contract terminated on the day December 30th. According to the general director, Marcos Freire, without them the hospital would not to haveable to keep the beds open.

“We are maintaining the professionals with the supplementary budget of the Ministry of Health, destined to the Covid-19 demand, which served to hire professionals and ensure open reference beds in Rio of January”.

The General Directorate informed that it has articulated with the federal, state and municipal spheres to maintain the contracts of the 850 professionals. The Agência Brasil report contacted the Ministry of Health and the Rio de Janeiro State Health Department of January (SES) and awaits placement.

Inaugurated in 1978, after 28 years of construction, work stoppage and resumptions, the hospital is today reference in the treatment of highly complex diseases and a center of excellence in teaching, research and extension.

The unit is linked to the Ministry of Education and the Unified Health System (SUS) and only serves after referral by the State Regulation Center.
