Following the news that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce his resignation, a Downing Street spokesman has said the Conservative Party leader will “make a statement to the country” on Thursday.
Rumors surrounding his resignation intensified after the abandonment of more than 50 Conservative ministers and legislatorswho withdrew their support after Johnson’s involvement in numerous scandals.
It is speculated that the Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt and Attorney General Suella Braverman lead the race for succession.
As reported by Bloomberg, “A close ally said Johnson had shown in the past 48 hours that he would step down, but has admitted he must step down. He will remain as caretaker prime minister until October, with a new Conservative leader to be installed in time for the party’s annual conference.“.
