UK forces arrive in Eastern Europe to expand NATO action

UK Navy ships, British Army troops and Royal Air Force fighter jets were deployed in Eastern Europe to reinforce the eastern front of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The information is from a statement from the UK Ministry of Defense released this Saturday (26).

“HMS Trent is in the eastern Mediterranean, conducting NATO exercises with Merlin Helicopters and RAF P8 Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft,” the statement said. HMS Diamond, a destroyer, will join from Portsmouth.

Tanks and armored vehicles “arrived in Estonia from Germany, with more equipment and around 1,000 troops arriving in the coming days,” the ministry added.

The statement added that Typhoon fighter jets “flying from bases in Cyprus and the UK are now patrolling NATO airspace over Romania and Poland alongside NATO allies with airborne refueling aircraft in support.”

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Our armed forces are once again being called upon to serve our nation and I salute the bravery and sense of duty shared by all our personnel who have been deployed to support NATO.”

“Together with our NATO allies, these add-ons constitute an important measure to stop Russian advances that threaten the territorial sovereignty of member states,” added Wallace.
