The inflation expectations of the British population cooled for the second consecutive month in Januarya monthly survey by Citi and YouGov showed Tuesday.

conclusions

The expectations of the UK population for the next five to ten years fell to 3.5% in January from 3.6% in December, just below the 3.0% to 3.4% range seen before the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 12 months ahead, inflation expectations fell to 5.4% in January from 5.7% in the previous survey.

The downward trend in UK population inflation expectations should further reassure the Bank of England that high prices will not be permanently embedded in expectations, Reuters reports citing the survey.

Market reaction

The pair GBP/USD remains lower after knowing the results of the survey, which fuel the moderate expectations of the Bank of England. The pair is trading at 1.2318, down 0.26% on the day.
