UK: Liz Truss government has 80% disapproval, poll finds

The administration of the UK Prime Minister, Liz Truss received disapproval from 80% of the British, according to the YouGov poll released this Tuesday (18).

The prime minister’s approval rating, still according to YouGov, is 10%. The poll was conducted October 14-16 and shows a decline in the British prime minister’s popularity rating.

The previous poll, conducted October 11-12, had a 15% approval rating for Liz Truss.

“Four in five British adults (80%) now view Truss unfavorably, with 62% viewing her very unfavorably. The prime minister’s net favor score is now -70, down 14 points from last week.

The latest poll results come after Truss reversed the corporate tax cut and fired Kwasi Kwarteng as finance minister, replacing him with Jeremy Hunt.

The survey heard 1,724 adults.

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss apologized for “mistakes” in her program that caused investor confidence to evaporate and her poll ratings plummeted, but said on Monday she would not resign.

“I want to accept responsibility and apologize for the mistakes made,” Truss told the BBC.

“I wanted to take action, help people with their energy bills deal with the high tax issue, but we went too far and too fast.”

Elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss officially took office on September 6, after meeting with Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

The former foreign secretary defeated Rishi Sunak in the race to become leader of the Conservative Party.

She replaced Boris Johnson, who was forced to resign after his government lost support from lawmakers amid a series of scandals and ministerial resignations.

Truss inherited a country in crisis, with bills for the growing population. She had previously promised tax cuts to help improve living conditions for Britons.
