UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak arrived in Israel this Thursday (19) before meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.
“I am in Israel, a suffering nation. I am sorry and I am with you against the evil that is terrorism. Today and always,” Sunak said in a post on X.
The Prime Minister’s official account also spoke about the visit, writing that Sunak is in Israel to meet the country’s leaders, as well as leaders “from across the region”.

“The UK is working to ensure that Hamas terrorism is not a catalyst for further escalation. Every effort must be made to prevent further loss of innocent lives,” the post read.

Sunak is also expected to pressure Israel to open a humanitarian corridor to Gaza “as quickly as possible” so that British citizens trapped in the area can leave, UK officials said.
The UK prime minister described Tuesday’s deadly explosion at a hospital in Gaza as a “watershed moment” for leaders in the region and elsewhere to step up efforts to avoid “a further dangerous escalation of the conflict”.
While the statement did not say which regional capitals Sunak will visit, it was confirmed that UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will visit Egypt, Turkey and Qatar in the “coming days”.
