British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will travel to Egypt this Friday (20), as part of a trip to the Middle East, in which he wants to convey his message that there should not be an escalation of violence in the region following the attack on Hamas to Israel.
Sunak was the latest Western leader to visit Jerusalem on Thursday (19) to show support for Israel and try to negotiate a way to secure the release of Hamas hostages and facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to people in Gaza.
Later on Thursday, he met with Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia, where he encouraged the leader to use leadership in the region to support stability, underlining fears that the Hamas attack and Israel’s response could trigger regional war.
In negotiations in Egypt, Sunak will emphasize “the imperative to avoid regional escalation and prevent further unnecessary loss of civilian life”, his office said.
