The United Kingdom summoned the Israeli ambassador to London on Tuesday (2) over the murder of World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza, including three British citizens.
British Minister for Development and Africa Andrew Mitchell summoned Israel's ambassador to set out the government's “unequivocal condemnation of the horrific murder of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers, including three British citizens,” he said in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I called for a swift and transparent investigation, shared with the international community, and full accountability,” Mitchell said. “I reiterated the need for Israel to immediately and urgently implement an effective conflict resolution mechanism to increase humanitarian access. We need to see an immediate humanitarian pause, to get help and evacuate hostages, and then progress towards a sustainable ceasefire.”
On Tuesday, World Central Kitchen announced that seven members of its staff were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza and said it would immediately cease operations in the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military “unintentionally targeted innocent people,” while the Israel Defense Forces pledged to investigate the attack “at the highest levels.”
