The prior use of phosphorus munitions by Russian forces in the Donetsk region also raises the possibility of their future employment in Mariupol as fighting over the city intensifies, British military intelligence said.

A map with the regions hit and currently under Russian crosshairs was also shared.

On Monday, a top Ukrainian official reiterated that Russia was continuing to build up forces in eastern Ukraine.

Vadym Denysenko, adviser to the interior minister, said in comments on national television: “From my point of view, this major offensive (in eastern Ukraine) has already begun.”
