About 14,500 people have arrived in Ukraine in recent days to fight, reacting to the Russian invasion, the Ukrainian armed forces said.
A total of 12,000 of them are Ukrainians returning and wanting to join the national defense effort, according to the same source. In addition, Kyiv expects many foreigners to volunteer to form an international legion.
In a statement, the Ukrainian General Staff said Russian forces had lost more than 12,000 troops since the start of the war on February 24.
Moscow had spoken a few days ago of less than 500 dead soldiers, but has not announced new numbers since. Kyiv has not yet announced a number of casualties in its ranks. Donetsk separatists spoke yesterday, Tuesday, of 47 dead in their forces.
According to the Ukrainian armed forces, 49 Russian aircraft, 81 helicopters and 317 tanks have been destroyed or damaged, but these numbers can not be confirmed by an independent source.
