Twenty civilians have left the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, a port in southeastern Ukraine besieged by the Russians, to be transported to Zaporizhia, the Azov Battalion, which is defending the area, said.
“Twenty civilians, women and children … have been relocated to an agreed location and we hope they will head to Zaporizhia, in Ukrainian-controlled territory,” Sviatoslav Palamar, deputy commander of the Azov Battalion, said in a video posted to the Telegram.
Hours earlier, the official Russian news agency Tass reported that a group of 25 civilians, including six children, had managed to leave Azofstal, a huge steel plant where hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians had been stranded.
