Nearly half of Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 55 say they are ready to take part in the war waged by Russia in their country, according to a poll conducted by European researchers despite the restrictions imposed by the war.
As for men, the figure is about 70%, while the corresponding figure for women is close to 30%, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Oslo Peace Research Institute with the support of the Ukrainian polling company Info Sapiens .
The latter asked more than 1,000 Ukrainians that their age is considered to allow them to be combative despite the difficulties encountered in conducting polls in the midst of war.
Respondents took part in the poll during the third week of the war (March 9-12) and were an equal number of men and women, who responded online to four resistance choices.
In the option “to help the resistance I would be directly involved in the military battle on the battlefield against Russian or pro-Russian forces” 49% answered that this option would be “too likely, moderately likely or quite likely”, according to the institute in Oslo.
In the option “to help the resistance I would be directly involved in the military battle from the positions of the Ukrainian forces”, the total number of respondents who answered in the affirmative is close to 47%.
Three-quarters of respondents, 75%, said they were ready to “help the victims of the war, for example civilians or wounded soldiers” and 80% said they were ready to help the resistance by providing non-military support to Ukrainian forces (with information, food aid or ammunition).
“The determination of the Ukrainian people to fight the invaders is remarkable,” the Norwegian institute said in a poll released yesterday.
The poll concludes that the motivation of the respondents’ resistance increases as the respondents are directly affected by the Russian invasion.
When the poll was conducted, one in five respondents said they had been directly affected by attacks by Russian or pro-Russian forces.
