Ukraine's interior ministry today accused the Russian military of arbitrarily detaining and executing civilians in the town of Vovchansk in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv region, where Russia has been waging an offensive for a week. “The Russian military, who are trying to gain a foothold in the city, are not allowing residents to leave: they have started abducting people,” Interior Minister Igor Klimenko said in a Telegram post, citing “operational information.” Klimenko also said there were reports of “first executions by rifle shooting of civilians” by the Russian military. “Resident of Vovchansk tried to escape on foot, refusing to follow the commands of the invaders.
