Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing to reject the United States ceasefire proposal, but is afraid to say that directly to US President Donald Trump.
Zelensky, speaking of his night speech, said Russia is establishing conditions for a ceasefire to attract him or make it happen.
“He is actually preparing a rejection at the moment, because Putin is, of course, for fear of telling President Trump that he wants to continue this war, who wants to kill Ukrainians,” Zelensky said.
“This is why in Moscow they are imposing on the idea of a ceasefire these conditions, so that nothing happens, or so that it does not happen as long as possible.”
Zelensky said Washington expressed readiness to organize the control and verification of the ceasefire.
“This is possible to ensure, with the possibilities of America and the possibilities of Europe.”
Zelensky added that a ceasefire would give time “to prepare answers to all issues related to long-term safety and real and reliable peace, and to put a plan on the table to end the war.”
