Ukraine has deployed on the front lines many of the new US M-777 howitzers it has received, the US embassy in Kyiv announced today, stating that 90 such artillery pieces were to be sent and all but one had been delivered.
These M-777 howitzers are part of the armament that Washington is sending to help Ukraine repel the Russian invasion, which began on February 24. M-777s are considered particularly important due to their long range and accuracy.
The US embassy posted a video of the Ukrainian armed forces depicting Ukrainian soldiers being trained in the use of these guns.
“M-777 Howitzers in action. Part of the latest US $ 800 million package for the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the embassy’s Twitter account said.
“The 90 howitzers sent from the United States are now, with the exception of one, in Ukraine, and many are now deployed on the front lines,” he added.
Russian strike on military infrastructure in the Lviv region
Military infrastructure in the Yavoriv region of western Ukraine, near the border with Poland, was destroyed early this morning by four missile strikes, said Maxim Kozicki, the governor of Lviv, where Yavoriv is located.
“The target was completely destroyed,” Kozicki said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Earlier, the governor of Lviv had announced in a post on the same application that “four missiles hit one of the military infrastructure in the Lviv region” and added that “the target was completely destroyed” and that “according to preliminary information, there are no casualties. “No one asked for medical help.”
The regional “Western” Air Command of the Ukrainian Air Force also said in a post on social media that missiles were fired from the Black Sea in the Lviv region this morning. Two of them were destroyed before hitting targets, he noted.
At the same time, the governor of the Belgorod region in Russia announced that one person was injured by Ukrainian bombing in a Russian village near the border between the two countries.
