Ukraine – Army Intelligence Service: Russian elite plans to overthrow Putin

Members of Russia’s business and political elite are reportedly planning to overthrow Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Ukrainian Army Intelligence Service.

In particular, the Intelligence Service posted on its official Facebook page that a group of influential people from the country’s business and political elite has begun to form, aiming to remove Putin from power as soon as possible and restore the economic ties with the West destroyed after the Russian attack on Ukraine, according to Newsweek

Part of the Russian political elite of the Russian Federation considers as Putin’s successor the director of the FSB Alexander Bortnikov, who recently allegedly fell out of favor. Putin’s displeasure with the FSB chief is said to be due to his miscalculation of the war in Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Army Intelligence Service, Bortnikov and his unit had taken on the responsibility of analyzing the intentions of the Ukrainian population and the capability of the Ukrainian army.

It is known that Bortnikov and some other members of the influential Russian elite are considering various options for removing Putin from power. In particular, poisoning, sudden illness or other “accident” is not ruled out, according to the Intelligence Service of the Ukrainian Army.

It is possible that these processes are connected with the recent “fiasco” regarding the locations of Chechen units in the north of Kiev.

The Ukrainian Army Intelligence Service reports that the information came from the Russian side. Probably, this is how the FSB leadership is trying to weaken Kadyrov’s influence. It could also be an attempt to establish co-operation with the Ukrainian authorities in advance, bypassing the current leadership of the Russian Federation.
