LAST UPDATE: 13:58
At least six people have been killed and more than 30 are believed to be trapped after Russian rockets hit a four-story residential building in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, causing it to collapse, the region’s governor said.
Governor Pavlo Kirilenko reported on Telegram that the strike was launched last Saturday night against the town of Chasiv Yar.
“The rescue operation is ongoing. The rescuers managed to bring six dead and five injured to the surface,” he noted.
“At least 30 people are under the rubble,” Kirilenko added.
AFP journalists who arrived at the scene saw the four-story building partially collapsed and rescue workers with a bulldozer trying to remove the debris.
“So far the rescuers have managed to communicate with two people who are trapped,” Kirilenko pointed out.
According to him, 591 civilians have been killed and 1,548 injured so far in Donetsk province since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
