Ukraine: Could discuss a model outside NATO

Ukraine is not prepared to compromise on its territorial integrity in its talks with Russia, but could discuss a “non-NATO model” for its future, a Ukrainian negotiator told the US network today. Fox News.

Ukraine has sought to join the European Union and NATO, a development to which Moscow has reacted. Russian President Vladimir Putin has cited its possible NATO membership as evidence of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s aggression against his country.

“The response we are receiving from NATO countries is that they are not even ready to discuss ‘Ukraine’s accession,’ at least not for the next five to ten years,” David Arahamia was quoted as saying by Fox News.

“We are ready to discuss other models besides NATO. For example, guarantees could be given by various countries, such as the USA, China, the United Kingdom, possibly Germany and France.

“We are ready to discuss such things in a wider forum, not only in bilateral talks with Russia but also with other partners.”

The third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine is scheduled for tomorrow, according to the Ukrainian side.
