Ukraine, Defense and Energy, key issues of the informal March 10 and 11 summit

The situation in Ukraine, defense and energy, will be the main topics of the informal summit to be held on March 10 and 11 in Versailles, Paris.

According to the standard letter-invitation to European leaders before the Summits, the President of the EU Council, Charles Michel, emphasizes that Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the consequences of the conflict will be at the center of the informal Summit that will be hosted by the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

“Russia has brought war back to Europe. This unprovoked and unjustified military attack on Ukraine blatantly violates international law and undermines European security. Russia is causing untold suffering to the Ukrainian people. We commend the people of Ukraine for their “Together with Ukraine, we stand firmly on the side of freedom and democracy. Ukraine is part of our European family,” said Michel Michel in his letter. He also stressed that the EU had shown unity and strength in response to Russia’s aggression. “We have imposed the strictest sanctions ever imposed on Russia. The EU and its Member States are providing coordinated humanitarian, political, economic and material support to Ukraine. The Member States are also showing great solidarity in hosting countless people fleeing the war,” he said. The letter.

In addition, the informal summit will focus on three issues: strengthening the EU’s defense capabilities, reducing the EU’s energy dependence, especially on Russian gas, oil and coal, and building a stronger economic base.

“In recent years, faced with multiple crises and challenges, we have committed ourselves together to an ambitious strategic agenda. In the light of recent events, it is more urgent than ever to take decisive steps towards building our sovereignty, reducing our dependencies and “designing a new development and investment model,” says Charles Michel.

The Summit will begin on March 10 at 6:30 p.m. (Greek time) with an exchange of views with the President of the European Parliament. The first day will discuss the situation in Ukraine, as well as the issue of defense and energy. On March 11, the “27” will discuss the “new growth and investment model”, in the presence of the President of the European Central Bank and the President of the Eurogroup.
