Ukraine drone attack on Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters

A drone attack this morning hit the headquarters of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, injuring five people, said Mikhail Razvozayev, governor of the city on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula.

“This morning, Ukrainian nationalists decided to destroy us on the Day of the Russian Fleet,” which is celebrated in Russia, Razvozayev wrote on Telegram.

He added that a drone approached the forecourt of the Fleet headquarters and injured five personnel of the headquarters.

All Russian Fleet Day events have been “cancelled for security reasons,” Razvozayev announced, asking residents of Sevastopol not to leave their homes “if possible.”

Events are planned to mark the occasion across Russia, including a naval parade in St Petersburg (northwest), which President Vladimir Putin is expected to attend.

It is the first time Russian authorities have spoken of such a strike since the start of their attack on Ukraine on February 24.
