A drone attack today targeted the general staff building of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which is located in Sevastopol, without causing any injuries, announced the mayor of this city, which is located on the Crimean peninsula annexed by Russia, Mikhail Razvozaev.
“The drone was shot down right above the general staff of the fleet. It fell on the roof and caught fire,” explained Razvozaev in a Telegram post.
From the incident “there was no serious damage” or injuries, he clarified, attributing responsibility for the attack to Ukrainian forces.
This is the second drone attack against the general staff of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in less than a month.
On July 31, a drone fell into the courtyard of the general staff building, injuring five workers and canceling the events that were to be held on the occasion of the Russian Fleet Day celebrated that day.
Ukraine, which Russia blamed for the attack, denied involvement and called the accusations a “provocation”.
Today’s attack comes as explosions and attacks against Russian military infrastructure in Crimea are on the rise.
On Thursday night, Russian forces shot down a drone near a military airport in Sevastopol.
On Tuesday, explosions occurred at a military base and an ammunition depot in Crimea, with Moscow referring to “sabotage”.
In early August, an explosion of ammunition intended for the Air Force near the Saki military airfield in Crimea killed one person and injured several others.
Besides, the anti-aircraft defense system was activated today in Yefpatoria, in the western part of Crimea, according to the governor of the peninsula, Sergei Aksyonov.
From the incident “there was no damage, no injuries”, he assured.
