Ukraine: Eight Central and Eastern European countries support its accession to NATO

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked NATO members in central and eastern Europe, who issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine’s application to join the defense alliance.

The presidents of eight countries said they “firmly support Ukraine’s future membership in NATO”.

A joint statement in support of Ukraine joining NATO was issued by the presidents of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.

What they said in detail:

We, the Presidents of Central and Eastern Europe, countries whose leaders visited Kyiv during the war and saw with their own eyes the consequences of the Russian aggression, cannot remain silent in the face of the flagrant violation of international law by the Russian Federation, and for this reason we issue the following statement:

We reiterate our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We do not and will never recognize Russian attempts to annex any Ukrainian territory.

We firmly support the decision of the 2008 NATO Summit in Bucharest regarding Ukraine’s future membership.

We support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, demand that Russia immediately withdraw from all occupied territories, and encourage all Allies to significantly increase their military aid to Ukraine.

All those who commit crimes of assault must be held accountable and brought to justice.
