A powerful bomber struck shortly after noon in the central Ukrainian city of Donetsk, which is controlled by pro-Russian separatists, a Reuters correspondent said, adding that the cause was unclear.
From Lugansk, the other big city in the hands of the separatists, a correspondent for the Russian state news agency Sputnik reports that a series of explosions were heard in the center.
Citizens were not allowed on the streets, as separatists have declared a no-go zone.
The separatists had earlier reported 66 violations of the ceasefire by government troops in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, citing three wounded in two villages due to artillery fire.
Late last night, Ivan Filiponenko, the military spokesman for the separatists in Lugansk, spoke of a further deterioration of the situation on the line of contact and of the continuous bombardment of the artillery of the Kiev forces.
On Friday, the self-proclaimed People’s Republics of Lugansk and Danieck announced they were transporting civilians to Russia’s Rostov region amid fears of an imminent large-scale attack by the Ukrainian military. On Saturday, their leaders declared a “general mobilization” of those capable of carrying weapons.
