Kyiv fears a worsening of the situation in Mariupol and eastern Ukraine, following Moscow’s announcement on Friday that it would “focus on its efforts to liberate Donbass,” an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency said today.
The announcement could lead to a “deterioration” of the situation around Mariupol, a strategic port in the southeastern part of the country that has been under siege since late February and in Donbass as a whole, Oleksiy Arestovich said in a video posted on the presidency account on Telegram.
According to him, this announcement allows Ukrainians to hope that they can “chase the enemy” from the regions of Kiev, Chernihiv (north), Sumy (northeast) and Kharkiv (east) and announce in the coming weeks. “victories and counterattacks”.
On the contrary, “on some front lines, especially in the east, the situation is far from simple. We must be psychologically prepared for this and in terms of organization,” said the Ukrainian official.
