Ukraine: Fire near Zaporizia Nuclear Station – No Radioactivity Leak

Experts of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA) reported that they had seen tobacco today from the Zaporizia Nuclear Station administration in southeastern Ukraine, following reports of fire near the cooling towers. In a PAAE post on the X platform, it is emphasized that General Manager Rafael Grossi confirmed that there was no increase in levels of radioactivity, no impact on nuclear safety and there are no casualties. The head of the IAEA has repeatedly appealed to the warring sides for maximum restraint of the Armed Forces in the area in order to avoid the risk of a nuclear accident. The Zaporizia Nuclear Station – the largest in Europe – is in the Russian control city of Enemidar, on the south bank of the Dnieper River. The IAEA has played a decisive role in safeguarding the security of Ukraine nuclear power stations since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
