Five civilians were killed and 12 others were injured in a bomb blast near the Ukrainian capital, Donetsk on Friday, officials said.
“As a result of the bombardment by Ukrainian forces, five people were killed and 12 others were injured in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the pro-Russian general staff told the Telegram.
The city of Donetsk is the de facto capital of the self-proclaimed “democracy” of the same name, in the Donbas Basin. It has been partly controlled by pro-Russian separatists since 2014 and is the scene of fierce fighting following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 24 February.
In a separate statement, pro-Russian authorities claim that the city of Donetsk has been bombed by Ukrainians since the morning and that more than 200 155-mm shells have fallen in various districts.
According to Russian news agencies, the bombings hit, among other things, a cinema and a cafe in the city center.
