Ukraine: Five killed by Russian missiles in the city of Kropyvnytskyi

Five people were killed and 25 injured in a Russian missile strike on an aviation school today in the central Ukrainian city of Kropyvnytskyi, the regional governor said.

Andrii Raykovic, governor of the Kirovohrad region, told a news conference that two missiles hit aircraft hangars at the National Aviation University Flight Academy around 12:20 p.m.

“There are casualties, dead and injured. Twenty-five have already been hospitalized — injured. Five have been killed, one of them is a soldier,” he said.

According to the Interfax-Ukraine agency, he clarified that there are 12 soldiers among the wounded.

“There is property damage — two civilian aircraft and one AN-26 aircraft.”

Kropyvnytskyi was targeted by Russian airstrikes on Saturday that killed three people, including a soldier, and wounded nine others. These strikes targeted railway infrastructure and a military airport.

The city of Kropyvnytskyi had before the invasion about 220,000 inhabitants. It is located some 300 km south of Kiev, the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian officials said today that Russian missiles hit several targets, including a military base in the Kiev region, as well as the Chernihiv region in northern Ukraine, or even Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city near the border with Russia.
