Ukraine appears “moderately optimistic” that its allies are finally beginning to listen to Kiev when it talks about the need to impose sanctions on Russia.
Informing reporters, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said he would further discuss the issue with US counterpart Anthony Blinken.
Kuleba also contacted Britain and other countries, asking them to send weapons to Ukraine and give it guarantees for the country’s future accession to the European Union.
“I sent a letter to the British Foreign Secretary this morning asking for additional weapons of defense for Ukraine,” he said, adding that he had made the same request to his US counterparts. “We will mobilize the whole world to get what we need to strengthen our defense capabilities,” he added.
Kuleba called on the European Union “to put aside its hesitations” and the skepticism that exists in European capitals “and to give Ukraine the promise of its future membership”.
Although he welcomed Berlin’s decision to suspend the licensing of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Kuleba called for “even stronger sanctions” against Russia.
