Ukraine has “evidence” that Russian forces used cluster munitions, prohibited weapons under international treaties, in two areas in the south of the country, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova said today.
Asked during a press conference about a possible use of such weapons for the bombing of Kiev, Venediktova said she had no “tangible evidence” of use in the Ukrainian capital and that “investigations” were ongoing.
“However (…) we have evidence of the use of cluster bombs in the area of Odessa and in the area of Hersonissos”, she added.
“We will see, especially thanks to your work, you journalists, that other prohibited weapons are also used, but as far as I am concerned, I can only mention the cases in which I have evidence on a very clear basis, when I have, for example (…) fragments (of these mechanisms) or a soil analysis “, the Ukrainian official continued without giving more details.
