Ukraine has reoccupied cities and defensive positions east of Kiev, says UK

Ukrainian forces have retaken cities and defensive positions around the eastern part of Kiev, UK Defense Ministry intelligence said Friday in its latest update.

“Ukrainian counterattacks and Russian forces retreating into overstretched supply lines allowed Ukraine to reoccupy cities and defensive positions up to 35 kilometers east of Kiev,” the ministry said.

“Ukrainian forces will likely continue to try to push Russian forces back along Kiev’s northwest axis towards Hostomel airfield.”

Meanwhile, the advance of Russian forces towards the Black Sea port city of Odesa was stalled, the ministry said.

“Russian forces are still trying to bypass Mykolaiv as they seek to drive west towards Odesa, with their progress being slowed by logistical issues and Ukrainian resistance,” the ministry added.

According to official Ukrainian reports, Ukrainian forces retook territory east of Kiev after heavy fighting on Thursday, reversing previous Russian gains.
