The southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv has been hit by massive Russian shelling, possibly the “heaviest” since the war began in February, which left two dead, authorities said today.
“Mykolife suffered massive shelling today. Probably the heaviest so far,” the city’s mayor Oleksandr Senkevich wrote on Telegram, noting that “strong explosions” were heard twice overnight from Saturday to Sunday.
The governor of the region, Vitaly Kim, reported two deaths, a pair of civilians, in those strikes. Other bombings hit the areas of Kharkiv (east) and Sumi (northeast).
A number of buildings were damaged in “a series of explosions” in Kharkiv, the mayor of Ukraine’s second city, Igor Terekov, announced.
One person was killed and two wounded in the Sumy region, which was the target of “more than 50 shellings” in the past 24 hours, according to Governor Dmytro Zhivitsky.
Pavlo Kirilenko, governor of the Donetsk region, where Moscow is concentrating most of its attacks, said three civilians were killed and eight wounded in shelling on Saturday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday night called on the population to evacuate the Donetsk region in the east of the country, whose cities are under deadly bombardment, to escape “Russian terror”.
