Ukraine hits drone depot in Russia’s Oryol region

Ukraine said on Saturday it had struck a long-range Shahed drone storage and maintenance depot in Russia’s Oryol region. Kiev added that this “significantly reduced” Moscow’s ability to launch mass drone strikes against Ukraine.

Ukraine’s military general staff said in a statement on Telegram that the attack took place on Thursday (26) and was carried out by the Ukrainian air force.

“As a result of the attack, a depot for storage, maintenance and repair of Shahed kamikaze drones, made of several protected concrete structures, was destroyed,” it said.

“This military operation significantly reduced the enemy’s potential in terms of conducting attack drone airstrikes on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure,” he added.

Moscow has not commented on the attack so far.

Russia has regularly launched missile and drone attacks against Ukraine during its 34-month invasion.

In recent months, Moscow has launched almost daily fire from dozens of drones at Ukraine, hoping to damage its infrastructure and wear down its air defenses, making them less capable of shooting down missiles.

Ukraine’s air force said on Saturday it had shot down 15 of 16 drones launched by Russia overnight, with the other disappearing from radar.
