Ukraine: humanitarian aid does not reach some cities due to Russian attacks

Russia has been laying siege to several cities in Ukraine for days – the case of Mariupol, where it is difficult to find water and food. With the recurrent failures of humanitarian corridors, aid does not reach some cities, as reported by the charge d’affaires of the Ukrainian embassy in Brasilia, Anatoliy Tkach.

“All negotiation rounds resulted in humanitarian corridor agreements, but they failed due to continued fire from Russia. The city of Mariupol is under siege and we are witnessing a humanitarian crisis in the city. One child has already died from dehydration,” she said.

In a speech on Tuesday (8), the diplomat said that, apart from Mariupol, in cities close to Kiev there is no water supply, gas and, therefore, the capacity to heat houses.

“No humanitarian aid could get there because of the Russian bombing,” he said.

The United Nations (UN) estimates that more than 2 million people have already fled Ukraine due to the war. The Ukrainian representative also reported that more than 600,000 people have already been evacuated from Kharkiv alone.

Tkach concluded by highlighting that the end of the conflict is a “top priority” for Ukraine, and that they consider “any option that does not cross red lines, such as sovereignty and territorial integrity of internationally known borders”.
