Ukraine received equivalent financial aid, as well as loans from abroad that exceeded $32 billion in 2022, after the Russian military invasion in late February, according to data kept by Kyiv.
About 40% came from the US, as announced by the Central Bank of Ukraine on Friday evening. A percentage slightly less than 25% came from the European Union, while a percentage of about 8% came from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Germany alone allocated $1.6 billion, according to the same announcement.
The total financial aid received by Ukraine from abroad corresponded to 16% of the pre-war Ukrainian GDP.
However, the country’s GDP has fallen by more than 30% in 2022 because of the war, according to estimates by the Ministry of Economy in Kyiv.
Russia has seized about 18% of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula, which it has controlled since 2014.
Ukraine is largely dependent on the foreign aid it receives, both economically and defensively.
