The Ministry of Defense of Russia accused the Ukraine this Thursday (18) to plan a “provocation” at the zaporizhzhia during the visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to the country, Russian state news agency RIA reported. Guterres’ visit to Kiev will take place this Friday (19).
In a statement, the ministry said there were no Russian heavy weapons at the site, which is controlled by Russia, or in nearby districts.
Fears about the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant have been growing, reaching a tipping point days ago when bombings damaged a power line and forced one of the plant’s reactors to shut down, despite no leaks being detected.
Ukraine and Russia have been trading accusations over the attacks, with Kiev saying Moscow had deployed artillery in and around the plant.
