The governments of Japan and Belgium announced today and late last night respectively that they will close their embassies in Kyiv until further notice due to the Russian invasion.
The Japanese Foreign Ministry clarified that a representative office of Japanese interests is operating in the city of Lviv (west), near the border of Ukraine with Poland, and that Japanese citizens can seek consular assistance and support in it, including those trying to leave country.
For its part, the Belgian Foreign Ministry, citing the deteriorating situation, informed that the embassy is now closed, the staff has already left the country and that consular assistance will be provided at the border of Ukraine with other countries. A few days ago, the Belgian embassy was moved to France.
Other countries, including the United States, have already suspended their diplomatic missions in Kyiv.
