Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will call for a unified approach to Ukraine when he meets with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today, also aiming to strengthen security relations across the Indo-Pacific region.
“As the Russian invasion of Ukraine coincides with this trip, I would like to stress the importance of international unity and reaffirm that Japan and India will work together on many issues,” Kishida said ahead of his visit.
India and Japan are part of the Quad (Quartet Security Dialogue) alliance, which also includes the United States and Australia.
Japan has imposed sanctions on dozens of Russian individuals and organizations following the invasion of Ukraine on February 24 while accepting Ukrainian refugees. India, however, is the only one of the four Quad countries not to have condemned the invasion.
