Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba, with Beijing again asking for talks to end the war.
The phone call, which Beijing requested at the request of Ukraine, was the first such talks between the two countries since March 1, when Kuleba called on China to use its ties with Russia to to persuade her to end the invasion.
“Wars stop at some point. The key is how to reflect on pain, how to maintain security in Europe in the long run and create a balanced, effective and effective European security mechanism,” Wang said.
“China is ready to play a constructive role in this direction by having an objective position,” he added.
Kuleba commented on Twitter: “I am grateful to my Chinese counterpart for his solidarity with the civilian victims.”
“We both share the belief that ending the war against Ukraine serves the common interests of peace, world food security and international trade,” he added.
China – which has come closer to Moscow in recent years and has close diplomatic and trade ties with Ukraine – has not condemned Russia’s attack.
