Ukraine must have access to the site where a missile killed two people in southeastern Poland. The statement was given by the Polish president’s main foreign policy adviser, this Thursday (17), after the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, demanded access to the explosion site.
Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Wednesday that access to the blast site would require an agreement from both countries leading the investigation: Poland and the United States.
The head of Poland’s Department of National Security, Jacek Siewiera, also told private radio station RMF FM that, as far as he knew, Duda was not opposed to having Ukrainian observers on the ground.
The Polish capital, Warsaw, says the blast was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile that went astray, something Kiev denies.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday it was possible the incident, in which a missile hit a village in southeastern Poland, was the result of provocation on the Russian side.
“We cannot rule out the possibility that attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure near the border were an intentional provocation made in the hope that such a situation might arise,” Mateusz Morawiecki told the Polish parliament.
