More weapons need to be sent to Ukraine to help “keep up the pressure” on Russian President Vladimir Putin, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said on Friday.
“It is very important right now that we keep up the pressure on Vladimir Putin by providing more weapons to Ukraine, increasing sanctions,” Truss said, en route to a meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers in Germany.
The minister said that “the unity of the G7 was vital during this crisis to protect freedom and democracy”, referring to the expansion and strengthening of relations between the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.
Truss is due to meet European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell as part of Friday’s G7 events.
Ahead of the meeting, Borrell said the EU must provide another 500 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine.
