Ukraine officially made request to the IMF for a new borrowing program

Ukraine has asked the International Monetary Fund (IMF) a new funding program as the war with Russia continues, maintaining military spending high, the country’s prime minister said today. Ukraine spends about 60% of its total budget to finance war effort and is largely based on the financial support of its western allies to cover the cost of pensions, public sector salaries and humanitarian costs. “The hostilities are continuing and the state budget plan for 2016 has been drawn up, given that the war is not over yet,” Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said in a post on the X platform.
