Russian missiles hit a one-story apartment building and a building housing a kindergarten in central Kiev today, killing one person and injuring five others, officials said as Moscow intensified air strikes on Ukraine for a second day.
Firefighters extinguished a fire that broke out in a nine-story apartment building in the Shevchenkivsky district in the center of the capital, according to emergency services. A crater formed on the roof of the building and debris was thrown at parked cars in front of the building.
“Rescuers have rescued a seven-year-old girl alive. They are now trying to save her mother. There are people under the rubble,” said Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, adding that many people had already been admitted to hospital.
Elsewhere, 400 meters from the nine-story building, a Reuters photographer saw a large crater formed by an explosion in the courtyard of a private kindergarten whose windows were broken.
