Ukraine opens two grain export corridors through Poland and Romania

Ukraine has organized two routes through Poland and Romania to export grain and prevent a global food crisis, despite various problems slowing down the supply chain, Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister said today.

Dmitry Senik said global food security was in jeopardy because Russia’s invasion of Ukraine hampered Kiev’s exports of grain from the Black Sea, causing widespread shortages and rising prices.

Ukraine is the fourth largest exporter of cereals in the world and has announced that there are about 30 million tons of cereals stored in areas under Ukrainian control. An attempt is being made to export these quantities by road, by river, but also by rail.

Ukraine is in talks with the Baltic states to set up a third food export corridor, Senik said.
