Two civilians have been killed in artillery fire by the Kyiv army in the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Lugansk in southeastern Ukraine, pro-Russian separatists have said.
The Ukrainian army pounded residential areas at night using 120mm guns, something that is theoretically prohibited under the Minsk peace agreement. “As a result, two civilians (…) were killed and an apartment building (…) was completely destroyed,” they said.
The separatists had earlier reported 66 violations of the ceasefire by government troops in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic, citing three wounded in two villages due to artillery fire.
Late last night, Ivan Filiponenko, the military spokesman for the separatists in Lugansk, spoke of a further deterioration of the situation on the contact line and of the continuous bombardment of the artillery of the Kiev forces.
