Ukraine: Pro-Russian separatists confirm the death of a Russian general

The leader of the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine today confirmed the death of a Russian general in the area, where Moscow forces are conducting an extensive offensive against Kiev forces.

In a message posted on the Telegram app, Dennis Pushilin addressed “sincere condolences to the family and friends” of General Roman Kutuzov, “who showed by his example how to serve the homeland.”

“As long as our generals fight on the side of the soldiers, our country and our nation will be invincible,” the separatist leader added, posting a black-and-white photo of the officer.

The death of General Kutuzov was announced the day before yesterday, Sunday, by a Russian war correspondent, Alexander Slandkov, but so far it has not been confirmed by an official source.

The announcement of his death came as Russian forces and their separatist allies attacked the Ukrainian Donbass and fierce fighting raged in the city of Sheverodonetsk.

Senior Russian military officials have been killed since the start of the Moscow offensive in Ukraine on February 24. Their exact number is not known, as the Russian authorities rarely announce their losses.

In late March, a tribute ceremony to the deputy commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Andrei Pali, who fell in battle in Ukraine near Mariupol, took place in the protected Crimea.

In April, the funeral of General Vladimir Frolov took place in St. Petersburg, and local authorities said on the occasion that he had found a “heroic death” in Ukraine.
