Huge queues trucks have formed on its borders Ukrainian with Poland, and drivers waiting for days there are citing delays at checks amid the Russian invasion.
“We have been waiting for three days now. The line didn’t move an inch all night. No one pays attention to us,” complained a 65-year-old driver, Mikola, who declined to give his last name.
“I’ve been on my feet since Monday, we haven’t moved for eight hours. AI arrived at the border, we’ve been waiting for a day or a half,” said Pavlos Ponomarenko, 47, who fears that the products he’s carrying will spoil by the time they reach their destination.
“No one needs us, here we are like homeless people, without water, without food, nothing” complained another driver, Dmytro, 45.
According to drivers who spoke to AFP, at this point the queue, 18 kilometers long, it formed three days ago and in the last 24 hours it has moved only 1.5 km. Ukrainian authorities said that at another point on the road there is a queue of 54 kilometers.
Trucks transport goods to Poland, but some are empty and they go there to load. Sea transport has almost stopped because of the war – except for grain.
Ukrainian drivers complain about delays in phytosanitary and livestock controls at the border. According to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mustafa Nayem, before the war they were controlled up to 80 trucks daily, but this number has decreased to 12-25 vehicles in recent days. “We are ready to do everything in our power to speed up the process,” he wrote on Facebook, noting that he expects “the same progress” from the Polish side.
