The Ukraine Parliament ratified this Thursday (8) an agreement on minerals signed with the United States, through which the Ukrainian government expects to ensure future military assistance.
Despite the doubts of some Ukrainian parliamentarians about whether the government had provided them with all information about the document and some of its commitments. In all, 338 voted in favor of ratification and none was against.
“The Ukrainian parliament ratified the historic economic partnership agreement between Ukraine and the United States,” said the first deputy Yulia Svyrydenko in an X publication.
“This document is not just a legal construction – it is the basis of a new interaction model with an important strategic partner.”
Some parliamentarians have raised concerns about the lack of details of some of the agreement, such as the way an investment fund planned for the reconstruction of Ukraine will be administered or how any contributions will be made.
SvyryDenko called a press conference on Thursday to respond to some of these concerns, saying that the investment fund will be operational in a few weeks and that its success will depend on US involvement level.
Two supplements will explain the details and will be published on a later date, authorities said about the agreement, which may have no return for a decade or more.
Ratification in Parliament occurs a day before Russia tried to show strength in a military parade to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany.
These preparations have been overshadowed by Ukrainian drone attacks, and Ukraine expects the ratification of the mineral agreement to reinforce its position in ceasefire negotiations, which have so far done little to decrease the distance between Moscow and Kiev, for the frustration of US President Donald Trump.
