Ukraine: Residents of a cold village enjoy a warm bath through a… Banksy mural

As they head into the frozen winter, the inhabitants of a bombed out Ukrainian village say they especially enjoy a hot bath as shown by a mural painted by the street artist Banksy .

The mural, which shows a man rubbing his back in a bathtub, is on the ground floor of what remains of an apartment building bombed in a Russian attack in March in Khorenka, northwest of Kiev, once on the front line where the attack of Russia in the capital stopped.

“For me, that means washing away all the dirt. The filth of the Russian Federation…”, Tetiana Reznichenko told Reuters as snow fell around her. “And this painting makes me feel as if I have cleansed myself of the filth that fell upon us.”.

The mural is one of seven that Banksy has confirmed he painted in Ukraine. Reznichenko said she offered Banksy’s team a mug of instant coffee in her apartment as it was cold when the artist went to paint the wall.

The 43-year-old Ukrainian woman has a wood stove in her apartment but no electricity, heating or drinking water as winter sets in.

“Winter has begun, and we don’t know what will happen next. Firefighters brought us non-potable water … but it will freeze if we don’t carry it inside,” he said.

Despite the problems, she and her neighbors remain undaunted.

“Ukrainians adapt to everything. Is there no light? No problem. There are candles, there are alternative imgs of electricity, power supplies,” said neighbor Olena Kulinovic.

“When the neighbors have electricity, we go to their house, charge the phones and the power supplies. Don’t we have water? Does not matter. Even when the government doesn’t help, we managed to organize the transportation of water.”
